McCarl Center for Nontraditional Student Success

A gift from alumnus F. James (Jim) McCarl III and his wife, Carol, enabled the creation of the McCarl Center, which provides a gathering place and a resource center for nontraditional students in the College of General Studies (CGS).  Jim McCarl is a University Trustee, past president of the Pitt Alumni Association, and a Distinguished Alumni Fellow, as well as a recipient of the CGS Distinguished Alumni Award and the Pitt Alumni Association’s Volunteer of the Year Award.  The McCarls are generous University donors, who also provided funding for the McCarl Hall of Champions in the Petersen Events Center.

The McCarl Center for Nontraditional Student Success regularly hosts academic success programs, career development seminars, and tutoring sessions, as well as many social and networking activities offered by the College of General Studies Alumni Society, the CGS Student Government, and other student groups. The McCarl Center’s convenient computer stations, comfortable student lounge, and comprehensive career resources library make it a favorite down-time hub for many students.
