Amy Niceswanger was recently promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Development and will continue to lead all Panther Club initiatives. Additionally, Amy will be directly involved with the fundraising initiatives for the new Olympic Sports facilities. She earned her undergraduate degree from Pitt in 1998 and her MBA from the Katz Graduate School of Business in 2003.
Maureen Anderson

Maureen Anderson currently serves as the Associate Athletic Director for
Development. She coordinates strategy for and solicits principal and leadership
gifts made to the Department of Athletics. She also assists with strategic planning
for Pitt Athletics' capital campaign and directs stewardship efforts for leadership
and principal gift donors.
Megan Wilson

Megan Wilson joined the Athletic Department in June of 2009 as the Director of Gift Planning for Athletics.
Megan came on board at the University in 2004 as a member of the School of Arts & Sciences Development Office. Since 2005, Megan has been a University Development Officer in the Office of Institutional Advancement.
Prior to coming to Pitt, she was the Tournament Director for the 2004 Betty Puskar FUTURES Golf Classic and a development staff member at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at West Virginia University Hospitals.
Megan is a member of the national Partnership for Philanthropic Planning and the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council. A Pittsburgh native, she attended Thomas Jefferson High School and has a B.S.J. in Public Relations and a M.S. in Sport Management from West Virginia.

Andrew Falk

Andrew Falk joined the School of Arts and Sciences, the College of General Studies, and the University Honors College in May 2001. Before working as Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, Andrew was a consultant and intern with the Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania. He also interned with the James Ford Bell Foundation at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Andrew was co-owner and president of Shadyside Ski and Bike Inc. Andrew received his bachelor’s in government from Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, in 1986. In 1994 he received a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University, specifically in public finance. Andrew is a trustee of the Falk Foundation, serving on the advisory committee of the Foundation’s Leon Falk Family Fund. He also raised funds, marshaled political will, and helped to restore a community park with the community-based green space preservation committee, Save It Don’t Pave It.
Thomas Golightly

Thomas Golightly joined the School of Arts and Sciences, the College of General Studies, and the University Honors College in June 2003. Prior to assuming his current position as Executive Director of Development and School Advancement in 2005, Thomas held planned giving positions with the University of Pittsburgh and the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Foundation. His 18 years of fundraising experience began as an Associate Capital Campaign Director with Ketchum Inc., where he later rose to Campaign Director. Thomas received a Bachelor of Arts in organizational communication from Purdue University.
Fay Lauro

Fay Lauro began working for the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of General Studies, and the University Honors College in February 2006 and became a full-time employee on April 1, 2006. Thus, she is very fond of April Fool’s Day. Previously she has worked for the Pittsburgh Playhouse, the Center for Hazardous Materials Research, New York Life Insurance Company, and the Southwest Pittsburgh Community Development Corporation. Fay has volunteered with Financial Partners, the Sheraden Block Watch, and the Sheraden Community Development Corporation. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1985 with a Bachelor of Arts in music.
Julianna Lawrence

Julianna Lawrence joined the University of Pittsburgh in February 2008. She previously worked with United Way of Allegheny County, where she represented United Way employee campaigns for colleges, universities, UPMC and other hospitals in the region. These programs, which raise money for community programs, initiatives and nonprofits across Allegheny County, were a large part of the campaign growth for UWAC in the last two campaign years. Julianna also worked in sales for thirteen years at various corporations and in the retail industry before that. She has a Bachelor of Art in music and plans to begin a graduate program in GSPIA in January 2009.
Kathy Jo McElwain

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Kathy Jo McElwain returned to Pitt and began working in development at the University in 2002 in the School of Education and then moved into the School of Arts and Sciences. Previously, she taught at Slippery Rock Area High School and was an instructor and program administrator at Bradford Business School. Kathy Jo has also done development work at Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne University and Winchester Thurston School. Within each of these positions, she has helped to raise money through various fundraising efforts. Kathy Jo received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Geneva College and a Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. In her free time, Kathy Jo enjoys traveling, volunteering at her church, and spending time with her family and friends.
Gretchen Smathers

Gretchen Smathers began working in the School of Arts and Sciences in February 2008. Before joining the University of Pittsburgh, Gretchen worked for the Carnegie Mellon College of Engineering; the Ohio State University Honors and Scholars Center; and the Ohio University Office of the Vice President of Advancement. Gretchen received a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and an International Business Certificate from Ohio University. She was also recognized as the Leadership Development Initiative XV graduate by Leadership Pittsburgh Inc. Gretchen is Director of Strategic Development on the Board of Directors for the Junior League of Pittsburgh. She also serves on the committee for the Oakland-based Community Human Services.
Tom O’Toole

Tom O’Toole began his second career at the University of Pittsburgh in January 2006. Previously, he worked with children with behavior problems, developmental delays, and/or mental illness. He served as Clinical Director for The Bradley Center; the Northern Ohio Regional Director for Pressley Ridge; MH/MR Administrator for Cambria County; and Executive Director of St. Anthony School Programs. As a former administrator Tom understands how to maximize the benefit of gifts. He enjoys helping donors to identify their legacy gifts that can significantly impact the lives of future students, the betterment of the University or cutting edge research that enhances the quality of people’s lives today. Helping to bring resources to talented individuals is very fulfilling to him. His work as a senior administrator helped to prepare him for work in development. In Tom’s first year at Pitt, he facilitated the growth of funding to the School of Social Work five-fold to approximately $500,000. Tom is an alumnus of Pittsburgh Central Catholic High School and received his bachelor’s from John Carroll University. He received a Master of Science in Social Administration from Case Western Reserve University and an MBA at the University of Pittsburgh. When he’s not raising his kids, Tom enjoys playing chess, softball and golf and is a proud 2008 fantasy football champion.

Gary V. Pollock

Gary V. Pollock joined the School of Education in March 2006. He was previously the Director of Development for St. Edmund’s Academy, and formerly the Director of Administration and Development at the Allegheny County Bar Foundation, where he coordinated the annual fund, special events, corporate and foundation relations, and individual gifts, and administered the foundation’s charitable, educational, and pro bono initiatives. Prior to his career in development, he was a curator for the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, where he worked on exhibits and collected artifacts and archival materials to document the region’s history. He authored A Contested Land, an essay in the exhibit catalogue for Points in Time: Building a Life in Western Pennsylvania. A native of western Pennsylvania, he earned his master’s degree in history from Temple University in 1992 and his bachelor’s degree in English-writing from La Roche College in 1989, where he currently serves as an adjunct instructor in the history department. He is an avid runner and volunteer fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Through the organization’s Team in Training program, he raised funds for the society, while training to run his first marathon. He completed P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘N Roll Arizona Marathon in Phoenix in January 2008.

Joelleen Yerace joined the School of Information Sciences as the Director of Constituent Relations in July 2008. In her current role, Joelleen manages the alumni relations program and development efforts for SIS. Joelleen previously served as both a Major Gift and Principal Gift Associate at the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Institutional Advancement. Prior to her employment at the University of Pittsburgh, Joelleen worked in the Office of Financial Aid at Allegheny College, and the Business & Finance Group at the law firm of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP. Joelleen earned her B.A. in Political Science from Allegheny College and a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Higher Education Administration at Pitt's School of Education.

Drew Chelosky is the Director of Development in the School of Law. Prior to joining the team at Pitt, Drew worked with alumni and parents at Carnegie Mellon University. He began his career at his alma mater, Washington & Jefferson, where he worked as an admission and financial aid counselor, assistant director of alumni relations, and development officer. In his current role, Drew works with alumni, parents, and friends of the University who are interested in making an investment which aligns with their individual and philanthropic interests.

Deborah Desjardins has been the major gifts officer for the School of Medicine since 2006. Prior to that, she was director of leadership gifts at the University of Pittsburgh. Her 20 years of experience in advancement include roles as director of develoopment for the College of Arts & Sciences at Oklahoma State University, assistant director of development for the Duke University School of Law, and associate director of alumni relations for St. Michael's College. She holds a master's degree in higher education administration from the University of Vermont, a BA in English from Saint Michael's College, and a certificate in non-profit management from Duke University.

Jean has been a member of GSPIA’s senior management team since 2003. In her current role Jean develops and implements the School’s priorities for alumni relations and development and other key initiatives of the Dean. Meeting and hearing from GSPIA’s alumni and friends in cities throughout the country and the world brings real meaning to Jean’s work at GSPIA, as does the knowledge that her efforts make a difference in the lives of our students and the mission of the school. Prior to joining GSPIA, Jean worked in health care administration in the areas of regulatory compliance and information systems and in higher education in the areas of corporate outreach, marketing and communications. Jean earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Management and Economics and a Master of Arts degree in Business and Policy Studies from the State University of New York.

After earning her B.A. in integrated arts from Penn State University, Emily worked in marketing in high tech and manufacturing sectors.

Apryl Eshelman, CFRE, is the Director of Development at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. Prior to joining the University of Pittsburgh, Ms. Eshelman raised support for The Nature Conservancy's global conservation projects.
Ms. Eshelman was a commerical wholesale banker for 20 years and began her career with Chemical Bank in New York City. She has also worked as a wholesale commercial banker in Europe and, most recently, in Pittsburgh.
She is a native of Western Pennsylvania and a graduate of The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

Before joining the development staff for the School of Social Work, Liz Cooper began her career as the Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Affairs at West Nottingham Academy, a college preparatory school in Northern Maryland with approximately 180 students. She then became Director of Parent Relations and Giving at Gilman School, a boys college preparatory school in Baltimore of approximately 900 students, where she stayed for three years. She moved into the Campaign Operations Manager position in which she was responsible for the day-to-day management of Gilman’s $50 million capital campaign. In addition, for five years she served as Fundraising Class Chair for her high school.

Julie Seavy

Julie Seavy joined the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Institutional Advancement in December 1986 as the Coordinator of Campaign Information Systems and Office Manager. She began fundraising for the University Library System in January 1996 as the Director of Development. In 2006, she was appointed the Senior Charitable Relationship Manager and Director of Library Advancement where she has had many accomplishments. She closed gifts in the fiscal year of 2007 totaling $1,125,000, which became part of the Campaign totaling $1 billion. She is originally from the Northern Pennsylvanian town of Kane. She has an identical twin sister whom is also a fund-raiser by profession. Seavy received her degree from Gannon University and later attended the College of General Studies at Pitt. She has represented many of the academic units on campus and is an integral part of campaigning at the University.
