Scholarship Opens Doors for Pitt Student

What do you want to be when you grow up? It’s one of the most frequently asked questions, yet it’s a question that so many of us don’t know how to answer. But as a junior at the University of Pittsburgh, Kayla Hunter has a passion, and thanks to receiving a scholarship, her dreams are coming true.

After being accepted to the University of Pittsburgh during her senior year of high school, Kayla received a letter from the University Honors College which informed her of her eligibility for the Chancellor’s Scholarship. After sending in her application and letters of recommendation, Kayla was narrowed down to the top 100 people who received an interview. Unfortunately, Kayla was not one of the final 10 people to receive this scholarship, but as a member of the 100 students chosen to be eligible, she received a full tuition scholarship from the Honors College.

“The scholarship has honestly opened so many doors for me in my education. I have been able to focus completely on my studies without the financial worries that a lot of students have. I also think I’ve been more appreciative of my education because of this scholarship, and I think I’ve gotten a better education because of it,” said Kayla.

By receiving her scholarship, Kayla has been able to take extra classes each semester to explore different career avenues she might like to pursue. With this opportunity, Kayla has decided on English Writing in the creative nonfiction track, and when she graduates Kayla hopes to receive a scholarship or fellowship for grad school. However, she’s also considering moving to New York City to pursue writing in the magazine industry. For Kayla, the possibilities are endless.

“If I could thank the donor of my scholarship, I would just let them know that they have truly impacted and changed the life of a student at the University, and provided opportunities for me that I may not have had otherwise. It pretty much altered the course of my career, my life, and my education. I’m really thankful,” said Kayla.
