Community Impact

In addition to educating students—many of whom are able to attend the University of Pittsburgh because of foundation-supported scholarships, and many of whom remain in western Pennsylvania after graduation to help build the region’s future—Pitt serves the regional community through a myriad of externally funded programs that touch a wide variety of audiences.  From law clinics that provide legal services free of charge to low-income individuals and families and start-up businesses; to science, technology, engineering, and math outreach programs that encourage underserved high school students to pursue higher education in these areas and prepare them for the rigors of college coursework; to arts initiatives in local elementary, middle, and high schools that expose students to the wonders of plays and other artistic media, Pitt utilizes the funds entrusted to it by leading regional and national foundations to remain an active and influential presence within the community and to apply its expertise in ways that directly benefit the public.
