Alumni Association
Director's Message
Stay connected to your alma mater by joining the Pitt Alumni Association. Your membership dues, which support our programs that include career networking, and gifts to our scholarship funds are tax deductible. We work hard to accomplish our mission, “To support the University of Pittsburgh and enrich the lives of students and alumni worldwide.”
- Jeff Gleim, Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations and Executive Director, Pitt Alumni Association
Overview:
The Pitt Alumni Association is the voice of more than 265,000 alumni. The association’s mission is “To Support the University of Pittsburgh and Enrich the Lives of Students and Alumni Worldwide.” To those ends, the association reconnects alumni to their alma mater and to each other through publications and online services. Among those includes a searchable online alumni directory, and the Pitt Career Network, a sophisticated online networking site that is available to both students and members of the association. Membership benefits are many.
Alumni are encouraged to become dues-paying members of the association. Membership supports programs and services for both alumni and students. When alumni choose to become life members of the association, their dues are placed in an endowment and will support the University in perpetuity.
Your Support Impacts Students
Support, encouragement, and a sense of belonging are all things that most college students strive to obtain throughout their college careers. Christina Whittaker, Washington D.C. native, has already found those qualities as a result of the Student Alumni Association at the University of Pittsburgh.
Currently a junior a Pitt, Whittaker is majoring in finance with a minor in economics. She is also working toward certificates in both international business and public/professional writing. Whittaker is the recipient of the African American Alumni Council Scholarship and the Chesapeake and Potomac Scholarship. “Receiving these partial scholarships has taken away some of the stress of tuition costs and has made it financially possibly to continue my education at Pitt,” said Whittaker.
In addition to benefitting financially from the scholarships, being part of the Student Alumni Association has provided Whittaker with an advantage over most students. Whittaker explained, “Once I received the scholarships, the Alumni Association was immediately an ally. They have been very helpful with any educational advice and recommendations I may need.”
As a member of the Student Alumni Association, Whittaker does have the opportunity to express her gratitude for their generosity by volunteering her time. During the summer Whittaker returns for orientation sessions to talk to prospective students about Pitt and the benefits of joining the Student Alumni Association.
Through the Student Alumni Association, members are provided with numerous events to connect with Pitt Alumni and make contacts to benefit their future careers. Whittaker said, “The most valuable aspect of being in the Student Alumni Association is the networking you can do. I feel so welcome by them and as if I really have their support.”
With the Building Our Future Together capital campaign, the Pitt Alumni Association helps connect alumni in a unique way. The Alumni Association helps alumni groups establish endowed scholarships to support the next generation of alumni. By awarding scholarships to high-achieving students, like Christina Whittaker, the Alumni Association demonstrates the impact Pitt alumni have on today’s students.
