Athletics Department
“Teamwork wins championships and the Pitt Athletic Department has some of the greatest teammates in the world in our Panther Club donors. Their generosity and support help make our student-athletes’ championship aspirations – on the field, in the classroom and after graduation – a reality.”
Steve Pederson, Athletics Director
Overview
The goal of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Athletics is to create a comprehensive academic and athletic development program for all student-athletes, utilizing education, athletics, and community resources to prepare them for careers after college.
The department depends upon the generosity of good friends and alumni to strengthen programs, improve teams' performances, and enhance the physical and intellectual development of student-athletes while advancing the University's rich tradition of educational excellence and athletic achievement. The Panther Club, the official fundraising unit for the athletic department, raises more than $7.0 million annually from more than 7,700 active members. Donations contributed to the Panther Club Athletic Scholarship Fund provide annual aid and scholarships to Pitt student-athletes in 19 varsity sports.
