University of Pittsburgh at Titusville

Overview

The University of Pittsburgh at Titusville has announced a $6 million Capital Campaign to refurbish and expand the residence halls and classrooms; construct a new cafeteria; and modernize the classrooms, library, laboratories and student union. The main campus of the University of Pittsburgh has committed to underwrite half the cost of these renovations. The remainder will be raised from the generosity of alumni, friends, and corporate donors committed to the future of the University of Pittsburgh at Titusville and the future of the Titusville Community.

The challenge is great, but the goal is attainable. By investing in the future of Pitt-Titusville, donors can help to sustain and enhance the educational mission that was begun nearly 50 years ago.

Student Impact Profile

Lindsey Titus has made many changes in her life when it comes to education. As a high-achieving student who takes her education seriously, Titus has studied at both Pitt-Bradford and Pitt-Titusville through her undergraduate experience. However, she has decided that Pitt-Titusville is where she wants to complete her degree. “It’s just an awesome, friendly campus,” she says.

Originally an undecided major, Titus considered communications as a field of interest. However, it was unavailable at Pitt-Titusville, so she transferred to Pitt-Bradford after her second year. She has taken advantage of the Interactive Television (ITV) courses, which allow students from different locations to electronically take the same classes and interact with the same professors simultaneously. She says that even the most challenging professors make sure that students are learning what they want to learn. Specifically for Pitt-Titusville, this allows people around the Titusville area to get a four-year-school education, since the Pitt-Titusville campus is a two-year school. “Bradford and Titusville are working so closely together to offer more majors,” Titus says.

Now a human relations major, Titus has decided to complete her studies at Pitt-Titusville. In the second half of her junior year, Titus suspended her studies to intern with Northwest Savings Bank in Meadville, PA. She anticipates graduating in December 2009 and plans to follow with a master’s degree in social work. Titus says she would possibly like to get a teaching certificate and become a high school guidance counselor, or become a counselor in a crisis pregnancy center.

Titus’ current accomplishments and involvements on campus suggest success for her future aspirations. She was recently recognized as a University Scholar, the most prestigious academic award which distinguishes the top 2 percent of all students in the University of Pittsburgh system. She has also been on the President’s List every semester, which requires above a 3.5 GPA. At Pitt-Titusville, she joined the national honors society Phi Theta Kappa, and was also able to join the National Honor Society of Leadership and Success because of her studies at Pitt-Bradford.

Titus also spent time working in the public relations and alumni relations office. She began when the offices were combined and has witnessed the development of the recent autonomous alumni relations office. “I was there for the first of everything for alumni relations, which was pretty neat,” Titus says. Titus has also worked in the admissions office and volunteers for many efforts around campus.

Titus says she returned to Pitt-Titusville because of the individual, one-on-one experiences she had on campus. “Titusville is such a small campus, and you know everyone, so it’s very resourceful,” she says. Titus says she has even persuaded others to study at Pitt-Titusville by emphasizing how beneficial those personal connections can be.
