University Library System

Overview

Support from alumni and friends have helped to establish our University as one of the finest worldwide. The support of the University Library System (ULS) has made many accomplishments possible:

  • The ULS is composed of 18 libraries and the Library Resource Facility located on Thomas Boulevard in the Point Breeze neighborhood. The ULS shares a single online system with partner libraries such as the Barco Law Library and the Health Sciences Library, and collaborates with them to provide facilitated access to all collections.
  • The ULS libraries and collections provide a wealth of information and services to the faculty, student, staff, administrators, and researchers. In fiscal year 2007, the University’s collections totaled more than 5.1 million volumes of and more than 45,000 periodical subscriptions.  The collection of electronic resources is growing rapidly and now includes thousands of databases, more than 25,000 electronic journal titles, and more than 170,000 electronic books.
  • The ULS is a member of the Association of Research Libraries, Oakland Library Consortium, Northeast Regional Libraries Consortium, Center for Research Libraries, and Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc., which enables University participation in a statewide, online, direct borrowing system.

Providing the best possible learning opportunities – as well as supporting and expanding research capabilities – is a promise that our University must keep.

The University of Pittsburgh is already envied as one of the nation’s most respected providers of high-quality education.  But our work is not finished. Pitt is experiencing a time of rapid and extraordinary progress. Your support is essential in our efforts to reach the University’s full potential.
