Thanks to the generosity the  AAAC has for future generations, you for the generosity that you have for future generations."

In partnership with the Building Our Future Together capital campaign, the African American Alumni Council (AAAC) has embarked on its first major gifts campaign to raise substantial funds for student scholarships.

The African American Alumni Council’s scholarship program currently consists of: the Bebe Moore Campbell Scholarship Fund, the Jack L. Daniel Endowed Book Award and the AAAC Endowed Scholarship Fund.

Bebe Moore Campbell Scholarship Fund

The Bebe Moore Campbell Endowed Memorial Scholarship Fund is being established in honor of Ms. Campbell’s professional achievements and to advance the Mission of the African American Alumni Council. This scholarship will provide financial support to undergraduate students, who through their interests and actions, exhibit the personal qualities, characteristics and values promoted by Ms. Campbell and contribute to the diversity goals established by the University. Special consideration shall be given to those students who have an expressed interest in pursuing careers in education, writing or journalism and to those students who have persevered to prepare themselves for a college education despite economic, educational or other significant disadvantages.

Dr. Jack L. Daniel Endowed Book Award

The Jack L. Daniel Endowed Book Award is being established to honor Dr. Daniel’s service, dedication and leadership during his tenure as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, Dean of Students and Professor of Communication. This award will provide support to undergraduate students attending the University of Pittsburgh (Oakland campus) meeting the standard criteria set forth below:

  • Student must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the University of Pittsburgh;
  • Student must show academic promise by having at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average at the University (rare one time exceptions can be made by the Vice Provost and Dean of Student Affairs) and a demonstrated commitment to his/her educational pursuits at the University of Pittsburgh.

The income available from the Endowment Fund shall be used for books and educational supplies directly associated with the student’s educational program.

AAAC Endowed Scholarship Fund

The African American Alumni Council Scholarship Endowment was established in 1997. The African American Alumni Council assists the University to advance its diversity initiatives. The Council also serves a vital role within the Alumni Association by recruiting alumni to assume leadership positions in both the Association and the University. Income is to be used to provide scholarships to diverse undergraduate and graduate students who maintain a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 and who are in need of financial aid.
